Welcome to WoodGrain

Crafting honest products through time-honored methods, WoodGrain is rooted in the small-batch tradition of wood-fired baking. Our signature bagels are hand-shaped each day, served with high-quality, housemade toppings and locally roasted coffee. Most importantly, our warm, inviting shops encourage guests to linger longer and strike up a conversation.

About Us

As Toronto natives, our reference for great bagels is rooted in the crisp-yet-chewy, slightly sweet version popularized by Montreal bakeries. Yet while we take inspiration from this regional style, it wasn’t an ideal vehicle for hearty sandwiches. In turn, we have developed our own unique bagel recipe and technique—while still honoring traditional methods.

Our Locations

Come visit and stay awhile! We have locations in Boulder, Denver and the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

Go Now: Woodgrain Bagels

“...the staff is warm and welcoming. But the bagels—on full display in an angled trough—are front and center. Bowen and executive chef Jeremy Schwartz (a former sous chef at Oak at Fourteenth) are trying to adhere to tradition as much as possible.”

“When it comes to bagels, are you Team New York or Team Montreal? Not sure what Montreal-style bagels even are? Well, you’re in luck. Woodgrain Bagels, a new Montreal-style bagel shop in Boulder, would be happy to show you.”

Woodgrain Bagels, a Montreal-Style Eatery, Opened in Boulder

“Woodgrain offers several kinds of hand-pulled, wood-fired bagels to eat in or take out. There are breakfast items like the pastrami hash and woodsman omelette, sandwiches like a Mile High Reuben but also avocado toast (made on bagels, of course), plus sides, salads, and of course poutine. For coffee drinks, the Boulder spot features locally-roasted Boxcar beans.”

“...And Bowen definitely plans to expand. ‘We designed this as a prototype for all future locations,’ he says. The Boulder Woodgrain is currently open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, but a Lowry location (Bowen hopes to add his bagelry to the mix at the Hangar 2 development) will likely have later hours, since beer and wine will be served.”
